Stop Snoring Solutions - Causes of Snoring

Stop snoring solutions are valuable to people who have suffered from sleeping disorder and poor health due to snoring. Statistics report that about 45 percent of all adults snore occasionally, with half that number being habitual snorers. In order to find solutions to stop snoring, we must first try to understand why we snore.

Causes of Snoring

Snoring produces vibration noises because our air passages at the back of the mouth and nose are blocked or obstructed. So what exactly would cause the blockage?

1. Muscle Tone in the Throat and Tongue Due to Alcohol, Drugs or Deep Sleep

It is no secret that when we fall asleep under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or simply in deep sleep, our muscles relax, and either our tongues slip backwards or throat muscles draw inwards into the airway.

2. Poor Mouth Anatomy

Having long, thick and soft palate, uvula, or large tonsils can narrow our airway, and increase vibration and the noises.

3. Obesity

Obesity can also alter our mouth anatomy, resulting in narrow air passages. This significantly increases snoring. So, keeping a healthy weight is indeed one of the best stop snoring solutions.

4. Obstructed Nasal Airways

Blocked nose indirectly narrows the air passage and results in snoring. Such a condition can be temporary such as during a bout of flu or infection in the sinus. Snoring problem tends to be more permanent and persistent in folks who suffer from chronic sinusitis. Since the inflammation of the nasal passages can be stubborn, chronic nasal congestion results and snoring follows.

5. Obstructive Sleep Apnea

This condition is characterized by a series of complete breathing stoppages during the night. Relaxed throat tissues block the airway, and cut off supply of oxygen and practically stopping your breathing. This forces your body to respond with a loud snore in order to open the air passages. This is then followed by complete silence for another 10 seconds or so. The cycle is then repeated up to 300 times for severe cases.

Sufferers of sleeping apnea rarely get a good night’s sleep. This can seriously affect their health and work performance in the day.

Hi I came across your blog about snoring...Really Cool :-) Snoring is a bigger issue in relationships than what many of my friends and experts had originally thought. Snoring is a real problem that at times can separate a couple within their own home and eventually break up a marriage or relationship without really knowing that snoring was the original underlying culprit. Visit also my site and see some other cool stuff for people who snore!

One of the ways to stop snoring is to lose even a little bit of weight. It can reduce fatty tissue in the back of the throat and decrease or even stop snoring.
