Stop Snoring Solutions

Stop Snoring Solutions

Stop snoring solutions come in different forms. Before you decide on the appropriate solutions to stop snoring, consult your doctor or otolaryngologist and explain your condition to him or her. There could be meaningful solutions to treat your snoring problem. Your doctor may suggest changes to your lifestyle, sleeping posture or using simple medications.

Here is a list of self-help remedies and solutions to stop snoring.

1. Lose weight

Losing weight is an effective stop snoring solution for an overweight person. It helps to lose the bulkiness in your throat. By now, you may have known that the bulky throat tissues could have aggravated the vibration which indirectly leads to snoring. Reducing its bulkiness would clear the narrow air passages, and stop snoring.

2. Changing Sleeping Posture & Bed Position

Sleeping on your back causes your tongue to roll backwards and block your airway. Changing your sleep posture to sleeping on the side is one of the most common stop snoring solutions. Raising the head of your bed by a few inches to incline your bed would help improve your sleeping posture as well.

3. Avoid Alcohol and Drugs

In our previous post, we spoke about the effects of alcohol and drugs. By avoiding both, we would suppress our snoring problem.

4. Application of Nasal Strips

Applying nasal strips would enhance breathing and clear your airway.

Other stop snoring solutions your doctor would recommend include:

1. Treatment of Nasal Congestion or Sinusitis

If your sinusitis is causing your airway to choke up, then treating this root cause of snoring is a smart way to treat your snoring issue. Speak to your doctor about the treatment methods available. At times, steroid sprays are effective in clearing nasal congestion.

2. Oral Appliances

These are plastic devices that are fitted into the mouth, and are similar to mouth guards. The main purpose is to keep the tongue and throat tissues from collapsing. This keeps the airway always free during your sleep and stop snoring. These devices can be used alone, or used in combination with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP).

3. Corrective Surgery

Corrective surgery is supposedly the final resort when considering all stop snoring solutions. You may have a deviated septum and require surgery to correct it.

For those of you with excessive palate and throat tissues, the surgeon may perform uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) a surgical procedure to remove them.

Thermal Ablation Palatoplasty (TAP) refers to surgical procedures performed to treat snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Examples of procedures in this category are Laser-Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty (LAUP), Cautery-assisted uvulopalatoplasty (CAUP) and Radio Frequency Ablation (somnoplasty).

4. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)

Surgeries naturally carry risks. If you wish to avoid them, you may use CPAP as a stop snoring solution. Using CPAP, the patient has to wear a pressurized mask over the nose while sleeping. What this approach does is it continuously pumps air through your airway, and artificially keep your airway clear. This method is one of the safest stop snoring solutions but some folks simply hate it because of the inconvenience and discomfort.

Great article! You list many viable options to cure ones snoring problems.

Only thing is that I am not a fan of surgery to cure problems that can be handled other ways.

I have a review of a product that can cure your snoring problem without surgery, check it out.

Snoring is a nuisance. If you snore, you probably disrupt your partner's sleep. Even though you may not even know you are snoring, it can keep you from getting a restful sleep as well. The stop snoring solution for you could be as simple as just losing some weight. If you are overweight the excess weight can put pressure on the airways when you lie down. Keeping your weight down can help to reduce snoring, so losing a little weight can really help.

Nice information and very effective cure for snoring, if you are obese or over weight is losing weight. I need not remind you of the dangers of being overweight and the problems it can cause you in the future. You already know how harmful those extra pounds can be. So if you are overweight, it is in your best interests to find out ways to shed those extra pounds. Regardless of what some marketers say, there is no magic pill to lose weight. The only formula for losing weight that works is: “spend more calories than you consume”. You know what that means – proper diet and exercise.
